INTRODUCTION

  • This section highlights my knowledge of the inner workings of the district that were not brought out in other questionnaires or forums.

PASE REVIEW PRIORITIES

  • There are four reasons for a PASE (executive/administrator) review and only the last one is directly related to student education.
  • We don't have administrators just because we need a bureaucracy to waste money. We have administrators to provide an efficient and effective education for students.
  • Every PSD job should be tied to education.
  • The problem is not the union or the employees, but that the BOE approved a contract that puts employee growth ahead of student growth.
  • We need a contract that has employee growth supporting student growth.
  • This is a leadership problem that can be solved with Michael Pruznick for BOE.

ACE REVIEW PRIORITIES

  • There are six reasons for an ACE (classified employee) review and none of them are directly related to student education.
  • We don't have janitors just because we want clean toilets. We have janitors because clean working toilets are critical to education. Students who 'hold it' because of inadequate facilities are distracted from learning.
  • Every PSD job should be tied to education.

ACE OUTSOURCING

  • PSD OUTSOURCING STATEMENT: 'The level of commitment of present classified employees to the students of PSD will not and cannot be matched by employees of a private firm.'
  • I've been a government contractor, a private contractor, and a manager of contractors. I've never seen such a blatantly incorrect statement as the one above.
  • The right contractor in the right place is an asset. The wrong contractor in the wrong place is a liability. Management's job is to use the right tool in the right place.
  • The outsourcing rules stated in the contract tie the district's hands by artificially inflating the cost of outsourcing and preventing PSD from using the right tool in the right place.

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES

  • If the PEA (Poudre Education Association, aka Teachers' Union) contract really prevents teachers from showing up to parent-teacher conferences, then this needs to be fixed.
  • At a minimum, parents need to be given more than same day notice. Could you imagine changing your work schedule to make the conference just to find out at the last minute that a foreseeable term in the union contract prevented your teacher from being there?

WEB SITE ACCURACY

  • The three screen shots below show that the web page for teachers was updated with the 15-16 Employee Agreement, but the web page for classified employees still refers to the 14-15 Employee Agreement.
  • Three screen shots are necessary because the classified employee page has a direct link to the old document (#7736), while the teacher page links to the HR page with the most recent version of the document (#9831).
  • Maintaining consistency of such documents is not difficult with the proper processes in place.

SAME-SEX MARRIAGE

  • The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that a marriage is between two consenting adults.
  • As a public institution, PSD is required to comply.
  • However, PSD's official documentation still defines marriage as between one man and one woman.
  • There is no excuse for non-compliance in this area. Human rights are non-negotiable.
